Welcome to a new school year! This is an exciting year for West Tualatin View as we continue our work with the International Baccalaureate (IB)’s Primary Years Program (PYP). Isn’t that a mouthful? If you are new to our school, please remember that acronym. You will hear it often. The PYP is the educational framework that West TV uses to anchor the student learning experiences throughout the year. When I think of ways to describe PYP, this is what comes to mind:
• inquiry-based and hands-on • student-focused • transdisciplinary (working across content areas) • conceptual • action-oriented • collaborative • communicative (verbal and non-verbal) • open-minded and global
The units that the teachers are creating emphasize meaningful concepts that help develop deep understandings of big ideas. Please partner with your child’s teacher – visit the classroom, watch for updated bulletin boards; pay close attention to what your child says, shows an interest in, and questions; and attend the performances, fairs/content evenings, and information nights sponsored by the class/school. Thank you for being a part of this wonderful adventure. If you would like more information about PYP at West Tualatin View, feel free to email me at [email protected].
